Katie graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Manitoba in 2013. She has a passion for community practice and has worked in various areas including addictions and mental health, crisis counselling, and primary care. Clinically, Katie has worked with a diverse population, including many clients dealing with chronic pain. She has observed firsthand the profound impact of chronic pain on clients’ lives, along with the value of many non-pharmacologic pain treatments.
Katie strives for excellence in the quality of her practice and is committed to ongoing professional development in her field. She was a leader in developing a chronic pain self-management program in primary care and is excited to be able to expand her services to the private sector. Katie has training in evidence-based chronic pain treatments including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). She has completed other courses and certifications in pain management, such as the Pain Foundations for Allied Health Providers course through PainBC and the APTEI: Pain Truth Certification Training.
In addition to working as an independent contractor, Katie works as a sessional instructor within the University of Manitoba’s College of Rehabilitation Sciences Occupational Therapy Program. She is also passionate about contributing to the field of pain research. She has presented prior work at various conferences, including the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists Virtual Conference, Family Medicine Forum, and the North American Primary Care Research Group conference.
Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time with her family, two children, and friends. She enjoys cooking, being active and playing sports, travelling, listening to music, and learning new hobbies!
Katie is a member of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM), and the Manitoba Society of Occupational Therapists (MSOT).
